August 2014 Lip Monthly Review

Lip Monthly is a monthly subscription box that sends you a variety of 2-3 full size products and a variety of 2-3 sample products.  The box typically includes lip balms, lipsticks, lip glosses, lip stains, and usually a random make-up item to spice things up.  It's only $10 a month, but you can use the coupon code FALL5 (today is unfortunately the last day to use it) to get your first box for $5.  You can also use the code 1ST299 to get your first box for $2.99 if you choose a 4 month plan.  If you're interested in signing up, please use my referral link.

Lip Monthly is relatively new and so the first few months, they had some issues with late orders and confusion as to how to login to your account.  However, they seem to have fixed all of these problems and I was excited to see that this month came with a cute little cosmetics bag that I will definitely reuse.  I saw variations in colors, but I love the bright blue that I received.

Here is an overview of what I received.  Each month, an information card is included with prices.  I was excited to see that I received 5 items, all of which are full size.

This months theme was "Lips 101."  In my opinion, the theme likely should have been pink lips because all of the products were pink.  Also, last month they received a lot of great feedback on City Color cosmetics which is why so many of the products were that brand and while I liked that brand, I wish there had been more variety to try out new things :(

City Color Be Matte Lipstick- Phoebe, which is no longer available on the Lip Monthly website and according to the information card it was $3.99, but I found it on the City Color Cosmetics website for $5, which is still a good price.  It's a great bold pink for summer (and yes, I know Fall is coming up).

City Color Cosmetics Lip Balm in Ultra Pink which according to the card it's $2.99, but I found it on the City Color Cosmetics website for $3.00.  This is a softer pink that I love and am currently wearing right now...the picture doesn't really show it well enough but below I did a few swatches!

Jesse's Girl Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Lip Lock which can be bought on the Lip Monthly Website for $4.99.  This was easily my favorite lip shade this month because its a cute girly pink, but its subtle so its perfect for every day!  Plus I'm really looking for colors I can wear to work now so this one is great.

City Color Cosmetics Magic Balm which doesn't appear to be available anymore, but retailed for $3.99.  This was my least favorite item because it was pretty melted when I received it and I just didn't understand what was so "magic" about it.  I wish there had been a better description.

Here is an attempt at making a sample swatch of the colors on my arm.  Each color is in order of which was discussed so you can kind of get an idea of the colors.

This month's Monthly Mix Up was Pixi by Petra Lid Last Shadow Pen in Gilded Mink.  It was full size with a retail value of $18!  This is by far my favorite item because I love Pixi products and its a cool vintage beige-goldcolor that is unlike anything else I own.

Overall, the value of this month's subscription was about $34-35 which is great considering the subscription is only $10.  I have way too many lip products so I went ahead and put my account on hold for the month of September, but I definitely suggest signing up if you're looking to try out new lip items!  Once again, please use my referral link if you are interested!
