August Beauty Box 5 Review

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription box that gives you 5 deluxe beauty samples for $12 a month.  Up until I finally read the information card, I completely thought this was the September box, but then realized I had a promo code to receive a free August Box so now I fully understand why I received Summer products when I was expecting Fall products.  Now I'm not so disappointed because who can really argue with free things and I do live in San Diego so it is kind of an endless summer right?  Anyway, if you'd like to sign up for Beauty Box 5 please sign up here using my referral link.  Be sure to use the code HALFOFF to receive your first box for only $6!

Here is an overview of my box.  Am I the only person in the world who hates these little squiggly paper things subscription boxes put in them?  They just make a mess.  I swear there are probably some still hidden in the nooks of my old apartment.  However, I do love the turquoise color of the box- definitely one of my favorite colors and it adds some spice to every day mail! 

One thing I do really like is when subscription boxes provide information cards with each product that you receive.  Typically, the give a price breakdown of the actual full size item and explain more about the product. 

Anyone that was a subscription box addict this summer, should know exactly how I felt when I received this Pur-Lisse "Pur" Protect SPF 30.  This is legitimately the 5th time I've either received a sample or a full size of it.  The full price is $55.00 for 1.7 oz and the sample was .5 oz which is a value of about $16.  I immediately gave this to my boyfriend because he has pretty fair skin and puts on more sun screen than anyone I know.  Plus he recently had an unfortunate surfing accident and his face is healing from about 9 stitches so he needs all the protection he can get to prevent scarring :) Needless to say, I was angry to see this, but happy that I could give my boyfriend a present that I know he'll use.

I have A LOT of lip glosses and similar ones in this color.  However, I love that this product was full size!!!  The Nanacoco Lip Gloss in First Kiss is priced at $3.99 which is relatively cheap for lip glosses.  I haven't tried it yet because I have such similar colors that I may just try to swap it, but we'll see.

I have to keep my nails pretty neutral and classic for work so I just did a test of what the nail polish coat would look like.  Unfortunately I LOVE IT.  I think its so cool and it adds something extra to ordinary polish.  The color I got comes from a Style Essentials 4 Nail Polish Collection.  The full collection itself runs for $7.00 so this one bottle of the Fade to Black nail polish is about $1.75 which is fairly cheap for a cute look!

 

This is my favorite item in the box.  I recently ran out of make up remover and I've been wanting to try the LA Fresh Travel Lite Makeup Remover Wipes.  They retail for $19.99 for 48 packets and this sample gave me 8 wipes valued at $2.49.  Definitely a great thing to have in a purse :) 

First of all, I couldn't even understand what this was because I don't read Spanish.   Actually, I almost ate it because I thought it was some dietary supplement or power gel sample.  I can luckily report that I did not eat it.  This is actually a Novex Brazillian Keratin treatment for your hair.  It claims its for all hair types and according to the card it retails at $19.50 for 2 pounds so this sample is worth about $0.64.  However, I did find it on amazon for a few dollars cheaper.  You're supposed to use it after shampooing for 25 minutes and place your hair in a plastic cap.  While I won't lie, my hair definitely needs something like this.  I doubt I'll use it because I simply just don't have the time or patience plus it took me a good 20 minutes to find the directions in English...

Overall, the August Box had a value of $24.87 which is about double the price of the subscription and since I was able to get it with a free coupon, I can't complain too much.  I'm a little disappointed in what I received, but not everything is for everyone!  I'm not sure if people get different items in their monthly Beauty Box 5, but if you do, please let me know what different items you got!
